On August 10th, 1961, U.S. forces conducted the first spraying of Agent Orange in Vietnam, launching what they called “Operation Ranch Hand.” The spraying lasted almost a decade, killing and disabling more than 3 million people including the children and grandchildren of those directly exposed, and harming Vietnam’s environment.

VAVA is the only organization representing Vietnamese Agent Orange victims. It is a membership organization, more than 300,000 strong, with chapters in almost every province in the country, working to support and advocate for the estimated 3,000,000 Agent Orange victims.

Ambassador Le Hoai Trung is Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. A career diplomat, Ambassador Trung served three prior terms at the Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations. At the time of his first posting, in 1983, he was the youngest diplomat ever to serve in the U.S.
