Description

On the ninth anniversary of Guantanamo, a circle of "detainees" in jumpsuits and hoods will stand silently in witness – as the names of all 174 detainees still being held at Guantanamo are read aloud. Join us on this day to say to the world that these victims of crimes by our government are "with" us – their names heard, their humanity embraced – by people living in this country who refuse to allow these crimes to continue.

Statement to the Prisoners and to the American People at 2:00 PM

Reading of the 174 names to follow

We will bring the presence of the detainees to this place because it is here that Jay Bybee sits on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, his lifetime appointment a reward for his service on the Bush/Cheney Torture Team. Bybee authored the hideous list of approved torture techniques that includes waterboarding and other sadistic, illegal and deadly methods of torture. [NOTE: Jay Bybee is not scheduled to be in court on Jan. 11 although the Ninth Circuit Court is in session there.]

If you wish to take part yet cannot come in person to the San Francisco action, we invite you to WRITE to us – send us your own message about the anniversary of Guantanamo, which can be shared with the gathering at the courthouse that afternoon.
