Description

Chosen to hear the appeal of a lawsuit brought against Yoo by Jose Padilla, who was held for more than three years as an enemy combatant, were Ninth Circuit Judge Pamela Rymer, an appointee of President George H.W. Bush, along with Ninth Circuit Judge Raymond Fisher and Illinois U.S. District Court Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer, both appointees of President Bill Clinton.

Hearing will be in Courtroom 3, 3rd Floor

Lawyers for John Yoo will make oral arguments Monday in the US Court, 9th Circuit in San Francisco in the case of Padilla v. Yoo.  Three years ago, Jose Padilla won the right to sue John Yoo for damages inflicted upon him through Yoo's legal justification of torture.  But the Obama administration is defending Yoo.

The Padilla v. Yoo lawsuit represents the first time a U.S. court has held a Justice Department attorney potentially responsible for the abuse of prisoners. See Lawyers petition court to hold Yoo accountable.

Join professors, scholars and government attorneys in the fight against Yoo and Justice Department efforts to dismiss the case.  We expect news coverage of the suit, and invite you to be present in a show of support for the rights of those detained post-9/11.
