"The board of local charity Cowboys Against Cancer is pleased to announce that former Vice President Dick Cheney will be among the dignitaries scheduled to attend the charity’s annual fundraiser on November 2, 2013. He has also generously donated items for the live auction which include an autographed copy of his latest book Heart and a dinner for four guests at the Cheney residence in Jackson, Wyoming.
On Sunday October 20, 2013, television show 60 Minutes aired a feature on the former Vice President and his health issues. Cheney talked about battling heart disease and the heart transplant he underwent at the age of 71. The vice president’s new book Heart: An American Medical Odyssey, which he co-wrote with his cardiologist Dr. Jonathan Reiner, chronicles his journey through various heart disease treatments and his heart transplant. A portion of this show was filmed here in Rock Springs when Cheney brought his granddaughter Gracie to compete in the local Power of Pink barrel racing completion at the Sweetwater Events Complex.
This will be the former Vice President’s first time to attend the local fundraiser. His daughter Liz attended the 2012 event and is returning in 2013 to help the charity raise money for local residents with cancer. Cowboys Against Cancer is a 100% volunteer charity raising money annually to give $3000 grants to local residents stricken with cancer for travel costs associated with their treatments. This year’s event is the 19th annual banquet."
