Description
You are invited to a Town Hall Forum with Rep. Keith Ellison (MN) and prominent Minnesota human rights leaders on the ten year anniversary of the torture memos. Rep. Ellison will facilitate a discussion with Barbara Frey, director of the Human Rights Program at the University of Minnesota, and Douglas A. Johnson, former executive director of the Center for Victims of Torture.
The torture memos were written by former Justice Department officials John Yoo and Jay Bybee to provide legal justification for the use of torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. The memos were authorized in secret by a small handful of officials who claimed their decisions were not subject to oversight or review. Town Hall Forum Free off street parking The forum is cosponsored by Amnesty International, Women Against Military Madness and the Center for Victims of Torture. It is free and open to the public.
