Thousands of Iraqis have been in the streets for a week. The Economist reports "an uprising" growing with over 100 protesters killed by the government. Sporadic protests over deprivation and repression in the past decade have coalesced into a demand to drive out the whole Iraqi regime. "The protesters have taken up the talismanic chant made famous during the 2011 Arab Spring—'the people demand the fall of the regime.'"
>>Why aren't we chanting that here?
And, this week, the "leader of the free world" piled on the horrific damage the U.S. created in the Middle East with its so-called "war on terror" by:
giving a MAGA green light to Erdogan to bomb the Kurdish people in Syria sending 2000 more troops to "protect" Saudi Arabia, the country responsible for the humanitarian crisis causd by its war on Yemen vowing to "hit the enemy hard," increasing the bombing last month (via drones and fixed wing aircraft) of Afghanistan to the highest level since 2006.
>>These horrific actions against the peoples of the Middle East are more than reason enough why this regime must go.
This week was the 18th anniversary of the U.S. bombing and invasion of Afghanistan, whose people had no responsibility for 9/11. Yet, still today, people living in the U.S. have been taught it's the "good" war as opposed to the "mistaken" war on Iraq. No! Both are crimes against humanity in that they are wars of aggression against countries which did not attack the U.S.
The fact that we did not drive out the Bush regime when it carried out "shock and awe" meant millions died, more millions were displaced and whole societies were destroyed. Islamic fundatmentalism was strengthened. Torture became part of the play-book and Guantanamo is not a shameful episode that ended but a demonstration project for the detention of thousands seeking life on this side of the border.
And now the increased powers of the presidency gained under George W. and Obama have been handed to Trump who is consolidating power in a fascist model. Did Trump come out of nowhere?
Not at all. At least since the "southern strategy," or some may date it to the election of Reagan, the Republicans have become a party of the Confederacy. The leaders of the Democratic War Party (Hiroshima & Vietnam) - now the party of "national security," of expanding the U.S. empire and keeping its base quiet - has accomodated to and been complicit with the worst parts of the fascist regime, giving $4.6B to fund the concentration camps. For a unique and deep-going analysis of the deep roots and driving forces of the Trump/Pence fascist regime AND a vision of how to get rid of this regime, see Bob Avakian in a film I just saw at Anthology Film Archives in NYC, "The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go! In The Name of Humanity, We Refuse to Accept a Fascist America: A Better World is Possible!"
>>South Korea, Sudan, Armenia, Hong Kong and Puerto Rico have brought masses of people out into the streets for days on end. Why can't we do that here?
