For a night dedicated to all things punk, we saw shockingly little of Vivienne Westwood, inarguably one of the creators of punk style, at last night’s Met Gala.

Only two guests wore her designs on the red carpet–Christina Ricci and Lily Cole–and when it came time for Dame Westwood to say her piece during the Vogue.com livestream last night, emcee Billy Norwich cut her off mid sentence.

First off, she didn’t seem too thrilled about the exhibit. “I had a little look and I like some of my stuff so I’ll leave us there,” she told Norwich.

When Norwich asked her about her outfit, she pointed to the photo of Bradley Manningshe was wearing safety-pinned to her dress. Manning is the intelligence analyst whostands accused of sending classified U.S. documents to WikiLeaks. Westwood has shown her support for Wikileaks’s Julian Assange in the past.

“The most important thing is my jewelry which is a picture of Bradley Manning,” Westwoodsaid. “And I’m here to promote Bradley and he needs public support for what’s going on with secret trials and trying to lock him away and he’s the bravest of the brave and that’s what I really want to say more than anything. Because punk, when I did punk all those years ago my motive was the same: justice and to try to have a better world. It really was about that. I’ve got different methods nowadays.”

Norwich, as you can see from the above grab, looks awfully uncomfortable and tries to wrap it up.

“Is that it?” Westwood asks. “Don’t we have more time? I want to say one more thing.” Too late. Norwhich had pulled her mic and the video cut to Hilary Rhoda.

Is that any way to treat the original punk designer at a gala celebrating punk style?

If you didn’t watch last night and want to feel a little second-hand awkwardness, here you go. Fast forward to around minute 44.
