Remember Jay Bybee - John Yoo's Office of Legal Counsel boss, during the critical years when they crafted the torture memos giving the green legal light for the "harsh interrogation" the world saw photographed at Abu Ghraib? Bybee, whose own memo designated the 14 "allowable" torture techniques (waterboarding, stress positions, sleep deprivation etc.)?

On the bench of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, this week Bybee is slated to hear three immigration cases (below) at the very same time he finds himself implicated in a federal government lawsuit against Arizona's draconian immigration legislation. (The Arizona law rests its argument on a 2002 memo which the Obama administration has yet to withdraw, hindering efforts to block enactment of SB1070.)
